The crew

Four trades, one crew

A designer, a crew lead, a mason and a horticulturist. The same four on every job, which is why the base, the stone and the planting are built to one standard.

We do not subcontract the base to one company and the planting to another. The people who dig your yard are the people who lay the stone and plant the beds, and the owner is on site every working day. It is why we build one job at a time.

You will not find faces here. The work is the point. But you should know who is coming through your side gate, so here is what each of us does and when you will see us.

  • Hands holding a pencil over a measured backyard drawing on a clipboard, a tape measure and a grade level resting on the paper

    Owner and lead designer

Daniel Kowalczyk. Started Hollowmere in Streetsville in 2011. Does every site visit, every drawing and every quote, and is on site every day of every build. Reach him at 905-555-0162 or hello@hollowmere.example.

  • Gloved hands guiding a plate compactor across a gravel base, string line and wooden stakes in the foreground

    Crew lead

Runs the dig and the base. Checks the locate marks before the machine moves, lays the geotextile, compacts the Granular A in lifts and checks the grade after each one. If the base is not right, the stone does not go down.

  • Hands in work gloves setting an armour stone step into a sloped bed of compacted gravel, a rubber mallet beside it

    Stone mason

Lays the pavers and flagstone, builds the walls and sets the armour stone steps. Cuts every border by hand on site, and steps every wall into the slope instead of fighting it.

  • Soil-covered hands firming triple mix around a young native shrub in a freshly mulched bed

    Horticulturist

Chooses the plants, prepares the beds and writes the watering plan. Comes back for the one-year check and replaces anything that failed in the first year.

Send us the yard

Call or write with the street and what you want fixed. We will come and measure, check the grade and the trees, and tell you what the base will take before we talk about stone.
